Why Train? Is it worth the expense and the effort?

Training and Good Maintenance

Why would investment in training pay off in any field? And, is same true for Physical Asset Management and Industrial Maintenance? Let us shortly investigate why training is important by first listing the more obvious effects of training, and then secondly list the less obvious, but even more inportant reasons to invest in training:

The obvious effects of training:   Engagement

  • It equips the workforce with knowledge and skills that can benefit the organisation through improved productivity and adherence to quality standards.
  • Employees develop skill sets that allow them to undertake a greater variety of work.
  • Increased job satisfaction and morale in the workforce.
  • Increased employee motivation.
  • Increased efficiencies in processes, leading to higher financial gain.

The less obvious reasons to invest in training:   Training Benefit

  • It supports the manager or supervisor sending his/her personnel to training by:
    1. Increasing his/her section’s ability to shine.
    2. Increasing the posiibility for him/her to delegate tasks, because the subordinate now can handle tasks not possible before
    3. The above then leads to the nanager or supervisor being able to give proper attention to leading the section to success.
  • Improved ability to implement and realise specific goals outlined in a company's business plan.
  • Increased ability to respond effectively to change.
